If your lawn has suffered damage from voles and pocket gophers over the winter, there are steps you can take to help it recover and return to its former healthy state. Remeber the damage has already been done and now is the time to heal. We will discuss prevention in Here are some tips to help you get started:

Clean up debris: Before you can start repairing the damage, you need to clean up any debris left behind by the voles and pocket gophers. Rake level the piles of dirt, and run a mower over the lawn

Aerate the soil: Voles and pocket gophers can create tunnels that compact the soil, making it difficult for air, water, and nutrients to reach the grass roots. Aeration can help to break up the compacted soil and improve soil health.

Reseed bare spots: Once you have cleaned up the debris and aerated the soil, you can reseed any bare spots in your lawn.

Fertilize: A long, harsh winter can deplete the soil of nutrients that are essential for grass growth.

Water regularly: Regular watering is crucial for the recovery of your lawn. The soil should be moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply and infrequently, rather than shallowly and frequently, to encourage deep root growth.

Snow mold is a fungus that can develop on lawns during winter, particularly in areas that experience heavy snowfall. It can cause issues for lawns, including discoloration, thinning, and even death of the grass. If you're dealing with snow mold on your lawn, there are a few steps you can take to help your grass recover.

Rake the lawn: One of the first things you should do is rake your lawn to remove any dead or damaged grass. This will help promote new growth and prevent the spread of the fungus.

Fertilize: Apply a high-nitrogen fertilizer to your lawn in the early spring to help promote new growth and strengthen the grass.

Aerate: If your lawn is compacted, consider aerating it to allow air and nutrients to penetrate the soil. This can help promote healthy growth and prevent future fungal growth.

Water: Make sure your lawn is getting enough water, but be careful not to overwater. A well-hydrated lawn is better equipped to fight off fungal growth.

Mow regularly: Keep your lawn at a healthy length by mowing it regularly. This can help prevent the spread of the fungus and promote healthy growth.

Use fungicides: In severe cases, you may need to use a fungicide to treat the snow mold. Consult with a lawn care professional to determine the best course of action.

By following these steps, you can help your lawn recover from snow mold and prevent future outbreaks. Remember to be patient, as it may take some time for your grass to fully recover. With proper care and maintenance, however, you can enjoy a healthy, lush lawn all year long.

Core Aeration helps in the fight of thatch build-up, promotes improved root development, and allows better utilization of fertilizers, water and air. We recommend aeration instead of power raking as a method to control thatch build-up. To get things started in the spring we recommend mowing the lawn short to remove as much old plant material as possible followed by aeration. This service can also be done in the fall.

Crabgrass is and will continue to be a major issue in the area, therefore a pre-emergent application is strongly recommended. Dimension is a very effective pre-emergent application for crabgrass. This application will be applied in a timely manner in the spring. Any cleanup and/or aeration will need to be completed before this application can be applied.

When environmental conditions are favorable, Turf Disease (fungus) can do extensive damage to a lawn. By treating the lawn before a fungus such as Summer Patch, Dollar Spot or Leaf Spot have a chance to set in, we can help prevent any damage from occurring. In some cases, more than one treatment may be necessary.

Circumstances may require that you be notified before a treatment is made. Simply check the call, text or email first box on your return slip and give us the best daytime phone number or email address where we can notify you the day before the treatment is scheduled. Also, please remember to notify us if you’ll be out of town. Please note that having to be notified before applications are made, may delay the application.
